About the Abbey
Alaric’s Abbey is a riverfront counseling and contemplation center in Durango, Colorado, created as a sanctuary for personal growth, inner peace, and meaningful change. Just minutes from downtown, the Abbey offers a calm and restorative setting where therapy, coaching, meditation, group work, workshops, and community-based healing can take root.
At its heart, Alaric’s Abbey exists to support the practice of Living Peace — not as an abstract ideal, but as something embodied in everyday life. Here, peace is understood as a path of self-awareness, emotional responsibility, compassion, and inner steadiness. Whether you come for counseling, a class, a meditation sit, a workshop, or a quiet moment of reflection, the Abbey invites you to slow down, return to yourself, and remember that healing is possible.

Meet Alaric
Rev. Alaric Hutchinson is a writer, psychospiritual teacher, peace-builder, and founder of Alaric’s Abbey in Durango, Colorado. Since 2010, he has worked at the intersection of spiritual care, contemplative practice, mental health, community-building, and personal transformation.
Blending Eastern philosophy, social-work insight, modern psychology, and grounded spiritual practice, his work helps people quiet the inner war, cultivate self-mastery, and live with greater peace, purpose, and presence. He is the author of Living Peace and Heart of Humanity, and is currently pursuing graduate study in conflict analysis and peacebuilding.

Suffering is not the end of the story. Through the practice of peace and the support of community, joy becomes not only possible, but a lived reality.

About the book
Heart of Humanity is a practical guide for anyone seeking to heal emotional patterns, untangle the mind, and live with greater peace in everyday life.
Introducing Dunisha, a modern path of inner peace and psychospiritual healing, this book blends Eastern philosophy, modern psychology, contemplative practice, and grounded self-inquiry. Through personal stories, clear teachings, and practical exercises, Rev. Alaric Hutchinson invites readers to examine the ways we repeat suffering — in our thoughts, emotions, relationships, beliefs, and reactions — and begin choosing a more compassionate way forward.
At its heart, Heart of Humanity is a love letter to humankind: a call to place humanity over dogma, peace over shame and blame, and practice over mere inspiration. It offers a path for those ready to stop fighting themselves and begin becoming a healing presence in their own lives and in the world around them.

At Alaric’s Abbey, peace is not treated as an escape from life, but as a practice for returning to life with more presence, compassion, and courage.
